Survey Finds A Smile Is Your Best Asset
Nearly half of all Americans consider an attractive smile a person’s best asset, regardless of age, according to a survey from the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. In fact, a smile is the one physical attribute that we can maintain as we age.
The survey also revealed that nearly half of all Americans consider a person’s smile the thing they remember most upon first meeting, even more so than the first things a person says. If a first impression is everything, then ensuring your smile radiates and is a reflection of your true spirit helps you connect with others and convey a positive image.
Other physical attributes, such as trim physique and thick hair, may lose their youthfulness as we age, but anyone of any age can have a beautiful smile. And if you’re not happy with your current smile, a cosmetic dentist can help you achieve the look you’ve always wanted.
Having a bright, shiny smile with a mouth full of white teeth is one of the most important things you can do to increase your overall level of beauty.
Of course, having a beautiful smile doesn’t come easy. Regular brushing and flossing is necessary to keep healthy teeth and gums. You may need to visit a cosmetic dentist for teeth whitening, veneers, crowns or implants.
However, these moves will pay off in an attractive smile. Your oral health also represents a critical component to your overall level of health and well being.
If you can look in the mirror, smile and feel good about yourself — that is priceless.
Many people are opting for cosmetic dentistry for procedures such as teeth whitening, veneers, crowns and implants. In fact, a 2012 study from the <a href=”http://www.aacd.com/”>AACD</a> found that dentists reported a 29 percent increase in the number of patients undergoing teeth whitening.
About 45 percent of those dentists expected the number would continue to rise through the next year.
According to the academy, Americans rate the whiteness and cleanliness of teeth among the top factors that give someone an irresistible smile. Beyond attractiveness, research by the academy also suggests that having a nice smile helps other people perceive you as intelligent.
Visiting a cosmetic dentist to maintain the appearance of your smile with procedures such as veneers, crowns and implants can do more then help you feel attractive. It improves how others perceive you, which can open the door to better opportunities in your career and other areas of your life.
If you’re wondering how common these procedures are, the answer is very common. In 2011, the academy reported that crowns were the most popular cosmetic dentistry procedure selected by patients. No. 2 was teeth whitening, veneers were the fourth most popular and implants were the sixth most popular.
The average patient visiting a cosmetic dentist for these procedures is a woman aged between 41 and 50. More men are opting for cosmetic dentistry, however, to achieve their dream smile. In 2011, 40 percent of all cosmetic dentistry patients were males, which represented a 7 percentage point increase from 2010.
